Best rainy day activities on Maui
“We’re going to be on island this week, and there’s nothing but rain in the forecast! What is there to do?”
We get this question all the time when rain is forecasted! The last thing you want while camping - especially while camping in Hawai’i - are rainy days, but sometimes Mother Nature has other ideas. Lucky for you, there is still plenty to do on Maui when the weather is looking less than ideal for sunbathing and rain forest hiking. Check 'em out:
Cultural activities + entertainment:
Maui Ocean Center
Maui Art & Cultural Center (MACC)
Makai Glass Maui
Hana Coast Gallery
Hana Cultural Center Museum
ProArts Maui - John Cruz is a great Hawaiian artist who sometimes plays on Wednesday nights here
Great food + drinks:
Mahalo Aleworks
Vida by SipMe
Espresso Mafia
Maui Wine
Ocean Vodka Farm & Distillery
Maui Brewing Co.
Other options:
Paia, Makawao and Lahaina towns are perfect for shopping and strolling around if the weather is not exactly beach ready.
Visit some of the local shops and galleries in Hana town.
Indulge in a spa treatment
We suggest looking on Airbnb experiences for local-inspired cooking or art classes, too!
Keep in mind that it can be helpful to check out the doppler radar versus the local weather on a weather app. If it's raining on one side of the island it may be totally dry on the other side.
Our best advice, though? Take it as an opportunity to slow down …you’re on island time, after all (and maybe bring a raincoat)!
