Best hikes on Maui

If you're looking for breathtaking hikes around Maui, you're in luck. Maui is home to some of the most stunning hiking trails in Hawaii. From the towering Haleakala Crater to the lush rainforest of the Road to Hana, there's a hike for everyone.

Here are some of the best hikes around Maui that you won't want to miss:

  • Haleakala Crater: This hike takes you to the summit of the dormant volcano, offering breathtaking views of the crater and the surrounding landscape. You can access the crater through the National Park and be sure to check out Hosmer Grove's extensive trail system - just remember to bring a long sleeve shirt and pants for early morning hikes, as it gets really chilly near Haleakala's summit!

  • Pipiwai Trail: Located in the beautiful bamboo forest of the Road to Hana, this hike takes you to the impressive Waimoku Falls. The bamboo forest within the Pipiwai Trail is also one of the most Instagrammable spots on the island (check out our post on other photo-worthy areas around Maui)!

  • Waihee Ridge Trail: This trail offers panoramic views of Maui's northern coastline and lush valleys. While its gorgeous views are not to be missed, do keep in mind that this trail can get really muddy during the rainy season!

  • Iao Valley State Park: This park features a short but scenic hike that takes you to the iconic Iao Needle. While you're there, be sure to take a dip in one of the pools on the lower portion of the park!

  • Lahaina Pali Trail: This historic trail offers stunning views of the West Maui Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The best time of day to explore the Lahaina Pali Trail is first thing in the morning, as its lack of shade makes the hike very dry and hot once the sun is blazing.

Maui's natural beauty is unparalleled, and these hikes are the perfect way to explore the island's stunning landscapes! Remember to always keep water, snacks, sunblock and a hat on hand so you're protected and well nourished.
